Blanche

Nigerian Dwarf Goat

Nigerian dwarf goat

Blanche is a Nigerian dwarf goat. She and her best friend, Pepe, were born January 3, 2021, on the same farm. They came to NarroWay just a few weeks later, on February 25. They were bred by a friend who made sure they got plenty of love and affection from day one!

For the first few months, Blanche and Pepe lived in a large pen in the staff office where they were bottle fed, cuddled and thoroughly spoiled. When the weather was warmer and bottle-feeding was done, we made a special stall in the barn to where they were reluctantly moved. Our staff had separation anxiety when Blanche and Pepe moved out!

When they were young, we referred to Blanche and Pepe as our “baby goats.” Because of their size, that name has stuck even as they have gotten older. They are now fully grown and stand barely over a foot tall. So, we still call them our “baby goats!”

Blanche has a gorgeous white coat and striking blue eyes. She is affectionate and easy to love. While she is playful, she is also very gentle.

Blanche was disbudded before she came to us. Disbudding is a routine procedure performed on young goats to ensure that their horns won’t develop. She often grows scurs and eventually rubs them off. Scurs are a growth where the horn would have emerged, but unlike horns, they are attached to the skin and not the skull. Blanche is more prone to growing scurs than is Pepe.

Blanche and Pepe are stall mates. They can often be found sitting side by side with necks crossed or heads resting on each other. When one gets into trouble, the other follows. Blanche typically bails first from a fight and generally just wants to get along. The two often run in a pack with the younger sheep, Bonnie and Clyde. Goats tend to have a love/hate relationship with sheep. They squabble amongst themselves, but when the older sheep push Bonnie and Clyde around, Blanche and Pepe step in to help.

Blanche loves attention and is always interested in meeting new friends.

Blanche is in every biblical show at NarroWay as well as “The Gospel According to Tennessee.” She and Pepe are especially featured at the end of the show in “Jesus, the Teacher,” when they perform their one and only trick.
