Pepe

Nigerian Dwarf Goat

Nigerian dwarf goat

Pepe is a Nigerian dwarf goat. She and her best friend, Blanche, were born January 3, 2021, on the same farm. They came to NarroWay just a few weeks later, on February 25. They were bred by a friend who made sure they got plenty of love and affection from day one!

For the first few months, Pepe and Blanche lived in a large pen in the staff office where they were bottle fed, cuddled and thoroughly spoiled. When the weather was warmer and bottle-feeding was done, we made a special stall in the barn to where they were reluctantly moved. Our staff had separation anxiety when Pepe and Blanche moved out!

When they were young, we referred to Pepe and Blanche as our “baby goats.” Because of their size, that name has stuck even as they have gotten older. They are now fully grown and stand barely over a foot tall. So, we still call them our “baby goats!”

Pepe has a beautiful black coat with white patches and an occasional brown spot. Because of her silly, skunk-like appearance, she was named after the Looney Tunes character, Pepe Le Pew. Like Blanche, her eyes are strikingly blue. She is outgoing, fun and easy to love.

Pepe is the defender of all things small. She is not afraid to pick a fight. She is quite the funny sight- raring up on her hind legs, head lowered and eyes fixed on her target! Pepe and Blanche are stall mates. They can often be found sitting side by side with necks crossed or heads resting on each other. When one gets into trouble, the other follows. The two often run in a pack with the younger sheep, Bonnie and Clyde. Goats tend to have a love/hate relationship with sheep. They squabble amongst themselves, but when the older sheep push Bonnie and Clyde around, Blanche and Pepe step in to help. Even if another sheep or goat starts a fight, Pepe is almost always the one to finish the feud.

Pepe loves to play and butt heads with Blanche. She loves to climb on logs and stand on anything elevated. She especially loves stealing hay from Pattycakes, the miniature donkey in the adjacent stall.

Pepe is in every biblical show at NarroWay as well as “The Gospel According to Tennessee.” She and Blanche are especially featured at the end of the show in “Jesus, the Teacher,” when they perform their one and only trick.
