Snowflake

Snowflake is the oldest sheep in the NarroWay barn. She was born in September 2011 on a farm just outside of Charlotte. She came to NarroWay in November of the same year. That year we rented some lambs from the farm for the Christmas season. But when our Christmas show ended, we purchased Snowflake.

Snowflake is docile and one of the most cooperative animals on the NarroWay stage. She has performed so long that she sometimes ad-libs her own lines. She goes “baa” when the spotlight comes up on her and her caretaker in the same certain scene and the audience always gets a good laugh.

Snowflake stars in “Jesus, the Teacher,” where she plays the part of the lost sheep named “Ichabod.” She is forever immortalized in the video that is part of the show. When we made the video, she was so cooperative we were able to remove her collar while out in the woods getting her solo shots. On stage, she is so loveable and gladly allows her caretakers to costume her.

Snowflake is a Katahdin sheep by breed. Katahdin sheep are a type of hair sheep developed in the United States over a 20-year period by an “amatuer geneticist” in Maine. He named the breed “Katahdin” after Mt. Katahdin, the highest peak in Maine. As a Katahdin sheep, Snowflake sheds her wool and never has to be sheared.

In the lot, Snowflake can be found with the other sheep on most days. But somedays, she prefers to get away from the younger crew and stays closer to Blue, the horse, and Knight, the goat. They’ve spent quite a few years together in the NarroWay herd.

While she stars in “Jesus, the Teacher,” Snowflake is also in all other biblical shows at NarroWay. She, along with all her woolly friends, are also featured in “The Real Christmas Story” each year.
